Intro | Each team will make herb butter from cream and buttermilk. Who can make the most? |
Items needed: Cream, buttermilk, glass jars
Rules | 1. Wash your hands well. |
2. Take 1 jar per person.
3. Clean the glass jar. Rinse the jar well with clean hot water.
4. Clean your work area.
5. Pour 100 ml of whipped cream into each jar.
6. Add 25 ml of buttermilk to the jar.
7. Screw the lid on the jar very firmly.
8. Place a paper towel on the lid of the jar.
9. Hold the lid of the jar with the paper towel and start shaking. (By picking up the jar with the paper towel, you prevent the contents of the jar from heating with your hands.)
10. Shaking the cream is churning. You have to shake until a clear lump of butter forms in the jar. This can take up to ten to fifteen minutes. Just keep shaking! While shaking, watch carefully what happens to the butter.
11. When a clear lump of butter floats in the jar, you can stop shaking. You now have butter and buttermilk.
12. Pour the buttermilk into a cup. Taste a sip of buttermilk!
13. Add 100 ml of cold water to the jar with the lump of butter. Close the jar tightly. Now shake for two minutes.
14. Drain the washing water into the sink. The butter must remain in the jar. Be careful that it does not fall out when you pour the water away!
15. Repeat steps 13 and 14 two more times.
16. Now put the lump of butter in a bowl.
17. If you want to make herb butter from the butter, add one teaspoon of herbs to the bowl. Stir gently to mix the herbs through the butter.
18. Pack the butter in plastic containers with a label. |
