4. Detecting wildlife in crops

Background

Farming takes place in rural areas. These areas form an important habitat for wildlife.

To protect this wildlife, it is important that farmers take measures to not damage animals or their nests.

Examples of measures that are commonly taken::

  • Placing protectors over meadow birds nests
  • Start mowing from the centre of the meadow, to give animals time to escape
  • Hanging chains in front oft he tractor to flush out animals

A new development is the use of drones to detect animals in grassland/crops before mowing or harvesting.
