Regenerative farming
For crop farmers, the soil is one of the most important aspects of their work.
Good and healthy soils will promote plant growth and increase the vitality and health of the plants.
Intensive crop farming often makes use of heavy machinery, chemical fertilisers and pesticides. This may in the end lead te degeneration of the soil.
In regenerative farming, cropping is not only about maximizing yields, but also about improving the soil quality.
Regenerative farmers will think about the effect of their farming methods on the soil.
One specific technique is mixed cropping, for example by sowing a cereal crop mixed with legumes. Nitrogen from the air will be fixated by the legumes and this can fertilise the cereals.
